The protection of personal information is important to the Joondalup Bowling Club (JBC). JBC is committed to respecting the right to privacy. By providing your personal information to JBC (either directly or through an affiliated organization), you consent to its use, storage and disclosure in accordance with this Privacy Policy and the Privacy Act 1988.

Personal Information

Personal information is information or an opinion (including information or an opinion forming part of a database) whether true or not, and whether recorded in material form or not, about an individual whose identity is reasonably apparent, or can reasonably be ascertained, from the information or opinion.

Sensitive information

Sensitive information is a type of personal information that also includes information about matters such as racial or ethnic origins, political opinions, religion or medical details, disability and the like.

If it is reasonably necessary in the circumstance JBC may collect sensitive information. JBC is required by law to obtain consent when collecting sensitive information. That consent will be assumed in relation to all sensitive information provided to it for use in accordance with this Privacy Policy unless told otherwise.

How does JBC collect personal and sensitive information?

Information may be collected when you:

(a) apply for membership of the JBC or any association of which the JBC is a member;

(b) provide details to the JBC or any association of which the JBC is a member in any application, competition entry form, consent form, survey, feedback form or incident form;

(c) access the website of the JBC or any association of which the JBC is a member; 

(d) participate in any program, activity, competition, bowling event or any other event run by the JBC, any association of which the JBC is a member or any affiliated organisation;

(e) participate in any commercial activity with the JBC;  

(f) are a party to any proceedings conducted by the JBC or any association of which the JBC is a member under their respective Constitutions;

(g) are required to provide information to enable JBC to comply with any law.

Providing Information

If information required is necessary and you do not provide it, this may affect JBC’s ability to communicate with you or to provide some services and your participation in some activities provided by JBC and JBC may therefore refuse to do so.

Collection from third parties

JBC, any association of which the JBC is a member, or any affiliated organisation, may collect personal information regarding a child from the parent or other responsible person for the child.

JBC collects information from JBC affiliates and organisations with which it is in association and on some occasions may collect information from third parties such as sporting related bodies and controlling agencies including government and law enforcement bodies.

Information storage and protection

JBC stores information in different ways including paper and electronic form.

Security of personal information is important to JBC. Steps have and will be taken as required to protect information held by JBC from misuse, loss unauthorised access, modification or disclosure including security measures for system access and for JBC website. 

How does JBC use and disclose personal and sensitive information?

JBC and third parties to whom JBC may disclose personal and sensitive information in accordance with this Privacy Policy, may use your information to:

(a) verify your identity;

(b)  research, develop, run, administer and market competitions, programs, activities and other events relating to bowls;

(c) research, develop, and market products, services, merchandise and special offers made available by JBC and third parties;

(d) respond to any emergency situations relating to medical treatment;

(e) provide programs which are run safely to meet health needs of participants and may use health information for insurance purposes;

(f) administer, manage and provide you with access to joondalupbowls.com.au;

(g) administer and manage the JBC membership data base; and,

(h) keep you informed of news and information relating to various bowls events, activities and opportunities via various mediums. 

Your personal information may be disclosed by JBC to affiliated organisations, agents of JBC carrying out functions or activities on behalf of JBC, JBC’s professional advisers including auditors, insurers and sporting bodies and bodies to which disclosure is permitted by law.

Direct marketing

JBC will assume consent to use non-sensitive personal information to provide better services and for marketing purposes (including disclosure of such information to service providers).

Every person whose data is collected by JBC has the option to refuse email, SMS or posted communications by making a request in writing to JBC’s President via the contact details set out below or by making use of the opt-out procedures included in communications from JBC save that information relating to the option to un-subscribe may be retained. 

Websites linked to the JBC website are not subject to JBC‘s privacy standards, policies or procedures. JBC cannot take any responsibility for the collection, use, disclosure or security of any personal information that you provide to a third party website.

Accessing and seeking correction of information held by JBC

JBC relies on the accuracy of personal information provided directly or indirectly to JBC. JBC will take all reasonable steps to ensure that personal information it collects, uses or discloses is accurate, complete and up-to-date. If you would like to access personal information that JBC holds about you that should be requested in writing via the contact details below. A response will be provided within 60 days. If access is refused you will be given reasons for the refusal. If the information held by JBC is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date please contact JBC immediately and arrangements will be made for it to be corrected.
